Advocated by Dr. David Chu, JP, the chairman of Mission Hills Group, the artist Eric Tsang who is also the chairman of Chinese Amateur Golf Association, as well as Chan Iu Seng, JP, an unprecedented golf tournament “Golfers 5.12 Fund Raising Campaign” was held on June 12, 2008, one month after the 5.12 Sichuan earthquake, to help the sufferers of this tragedy.
The golf tournament, fully supported by 20 mainland and Hong Kong golf associations as well as media groups, summoned more than 780 golfers for this worthy cause, including Timothy Fok, the president of Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China’s no. 1 professional golfer Zhang Lian-wei, the artistes Natalis Chan, Summo Hung, Michael Miu, etc.
The charity tournament marked a success for raising more than HK$6.33 million eventually.
“Golfers 5.12 Fund Raising Campaign” was held at seven golf courses at Mission Hills, the World’s no. 1 golf club, including Olazabal Course, Duval Course, Annika Course, Norman Course, Leadbetter Course at Dongguan, plus Pete Dye Course and Faldo Course at Mid-Valley.
“Mission Hills Golf Club is proud to take the leading role to summon and support the ‘Golfers 5.12 Fund Raising Campaign’,” said Ken Chu, vice-chairman of Mission Hills Group. “The Group has donated HK$26 million immediately after the earthquake. This golf tournament is also part of our long-term commitment to help the unfortunate Sichuan people”
The participated golfers had to donate HK$20,000 for a team of four, including the tournament charge and a gala dinner with charity auction.
