The legend of golf teaching David Leadbetter visited Mission Hills again from May 30 till June 4, 2008 for a series of golf demonstration, golf clinic, skill challenge and a members’ tournament David Leadbetter Cup, featuring a precious opportunity for China’s golfers to learn personally from this great instructor.
During his visit, he appointed his elder son Andy Leadbetter as the director of Mission Hills David Leadbetter Golf Academy (DLGA). “Andy could work at any of the DLGA’s worldwide locations. Yet he and David are so convinced of the promise China holds for golf and support the development of the game,” said Mr. Tenniel Chu, executive director of Mission Hills. “This sends a strong message regarding China’s on-going and unprecedented ascension towards the pantheon of the world golf stage. “
David Leadbetter has coached students from amateurs to pros, like countless PGA Tour, European PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and Champions Tour players. For his past three decades, his students have amassed over a dozen major Championship titles, and over 100 individual worldwide tournament victories. The latest achievement is that Trevor Immelman, one of his elite students, won the recent Masters Champion.
All these marked the highlight for his being inducted into the “World Golf Teachers Hall of Fame” recently.
“I’m more than happy to return to Mission Hills, the world no. 1 golf club,” said Mr. David Leadbetter. “Mission Hills and my DLGA team share the same passion and philosophy within golf circles, and that is to foster and mentor China’s most promising young golf talents. With this in mind, since 2002, I set up my golf academy here, the first in China from my 30 global academy list.”
