| Faldo instructs competing players |
(SHENZHEN, China)The sponsor of Faldo Series Asia announced recently it would add one more station to the third annual event this year. The Viet Nam Championship of 2008 Faldo Series Asia is scheduled on September 27-28 at the Ocean Dunes Golf Club in Phan Thiet (a port city and holiday resort in north-eastern Ho Chi Minh City). The competing course was designed by Faldo. The Club has been voted one of the two best golf clubs in Viet Nam in the world golf survey by the US Golf Digest over the last three times.
The Viet Nam Championship, the 12th leg of this year’s Faldo Series Asia (including the finals) and open to all Asian players, will not only provide opportunities for young players in Viet Nam, but also those in neighbouring countries, such as Cambodia and Laos. “There are plenty of golf lovers in Viet Nam and the opportunities are just beyond evaluation,” Faldo said, “there are also lots of talented players, but opportunities have to be created to tap into their potential. I believe the championship may meet the end. I really appreciate the support from the Vietnamese Golf Association and the Ocean Dunes Golf Club.”
“Just as his determination to win on golf course, Nick Faldo is strongly driven to engage himself in anything related to golf sport,” said Jeff Puchalski, general manager and golf executive officer of the Ocean Dunes Golf Club, “Now, he passionately delivers another promise to Vietnam. We have seen an increasing number of golf lovers in Vietnam, but few events are targeted at young players. The championship can inspire them to aim for grand slam victory, just like Faldo.”
A maximum of six players will survive the Vietnam Championship and make it to the finals of the 2008 Faldo Series Asia, to be held on the Faldo Course at Mission Hills Golf Club in March, 2009. The Faldo Series Asia, recognized by Asia Tour and Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation, has crowned Thailand’s Nakarin Ratanakul and India’s Rashid Khan, both of whom won the opportunity to play in the finals of the Faldo Series Europe of the year and a scholarship for the first-stage learning at the Volvo Asian Masters and Asian Tour qualifying school.
The launch of Faldo Series Asia was an inspiration from Faldo’s 10-year experience with the Faldo Series Europe. He introduced the event to Asia in 2006. The 2008 Faldo Series Asia, including the Vietnam Championship, will feature 12 games in nine Asian countries and regions.
Opened in 1994, Ocean Dunes Golf Club has won worldwide commendations for its weathered sand dunes and outstanding hole design, including the famed three-par 9th hole. Located to southern China coast, the hole was named one of the world 500 famous holes.
