(SHENZHEN, China)Mission Hills Group announced on 16 May 2008 that its Chairman Dr. David Chu together with the company staff made a donation of HK$ 20 million to set up a fund for the earthquake orphans in Sichuan province. The fund will be named Dr. David Chu’s Care Fund for Orphans and its purpose is to help the children who lost their families and became homeless after the disaster.
This is the second donation made by Dr. Chu within 3 days since the earthquake hit Sichuan. The fund will be administered by China Charity Federation and Shenzhen Charity Federation to provide emergency relief to the earthquake orphans and to support their livelihood and education in the future.
Dr. Chu flew to Beijing yesterday(15 May) to present the donation at a ceremony honored with the presence of Mr. Jia Qinglin, Standing Committee Member of the Politburo and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Other senior officials of the CPPCC also attended this ceremony. In the wake of a major natural disaster, Dr Chu’s generosity and patriotism was most timely and highly praised.
Dr. Chu expressed that the recent earthquake was devastating but it at the same time aroused a strong sense of solidarity and patriotism among the Chinese people. “Inevitably the orphans’ hearts must have been shattered. Through our love and care for them, we wish the orphans will be able to see a ray of hope.” he said.
Mission Hills Group has all along been active in supporting education, sport and culture development as well as charities in China. Following the severe snow blizzards in Southern China in February 2008; the floods in Southern China in 2005 and 2006; SARS in Hong Kong in 2003; and major natural disasters during the past decade, both Mission Hills Group and Dr. David Chu made timely and sizeable donations to help the victims. |
